In a recent post by Mark Zuckerberg, he unveiled plans for a new Facebook campus expansion in Menlo Park, Calif. Not even a year ago, the huge campus was built and now the world’s largest social networking company needs more space to fit its workers.
This campus expansion project will be under the world-renowned architect, Frank Gehry.
Zuckerberg in his post said that :
“The idea is to make the perfect engineering space: one giant room that fits thousands of people, all close enough to collaborate together. It will be the largest open floor plan in the world, but it will also have plenty of private, quiet spaces as well. The roof of the building will be a park that blends into the community with a long walking trail, a field and lots of places to sit. From the outside it will appear as if you’re looking at a hill in nature.”
The largest open floor plan means that it will be a large, one room warehouse-style building. It will feature movable furniture which can be shuffled as per team requirements for specific projects. This plan may be a success but we can also see problems related to noise, privacy and sanitation in the future.
It will also feature cafes, micro-kitchen’s, plenty of private & quiet places, and many break-away spaces with couches and white boards. It’s hill-station-type outdoor will have a garden which is spread over the roof-top with many trees making it an eco-friendly surrounding to get some fresh air.
This 420,000-square-foot project will begin next year and will provide a “paradise workplace for 2800 engineers. It will also be connected to the other work site with the help of a tunnel, with a shuttle service to commute between the two.
We believe that it is a dream work-place for many. What do you think?
