Steven Paul Jobs was born on 24 February 1955, to Joanne Simpson and Abdulfattah “John” Jandali, two University students who were unmarried at that time and gave their unnamed son up for adoption. Later, Steven was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs and named “Steven Paul Jobs”.
In October 2003, Jobs was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his pancreas. He announced this shocking news to his employees in mid-2004.
According to Jobs’s biographer, Walter Isaacson,
“For nine months he refused to undergo surgery for his pancreatic cancer – a decision he later regretted as his health declined.”
Jobs died at his California home at around 3 p.m. 5th October, 2011, due to a respiratory arrest caused by complications from a relapse of his previously treated islet-cell neuro endocrine pancreatic cancer. He had lost consciousness the day before, and died with his wife, children and sister at his side.
His death was announced by Apple in a statement which read:
“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve jobs passed away today.
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.
For two weeks, Apple’s Web site displayed a simple page, showing Steve Jobs’s name and lifespan next to his popular portrait.
Clicking on the image led to an obituary, which read:
“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
